ARRA in Marin
"The recently passed $787 billion American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act is a big, bold, and historic investment intended
to kick-start the United States economy and lay the foundation for
long-term economic growth and stability. It can also serve as a
down payment, if invested wisely, on building an inclusive green
economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.
The challenge, however, is the political and economic urgency to
spend Recovery Act funds quickly in order to put large numbers
of people back to work." (Green for All)
"Injustice anywhere is a
threat to justice
everywhere. We are caught
in an inescapable network
of mutuality, tied in a
single garment of destiny.
Whatever affects one
directly, affects all
indirectly."
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

More than $500 million dollars will be invested in green jobs trainings in the country. It
is important that we all advocate for transparency, accountability and oversight of the
application of funds in our County. The local creation of quality jobs that engages
underrepresented populations on a pathway out of poverty is an essential part of this
Recovery. We need to use this opportunity to advance social equity through, for
example, a substantial increase of opportunities of upward mobility for low-wage
earners.
We will be posting here information about the Recovery process in Marin. This also
was be the topic of our 2009 Quarterly Meetings and the Equal Voice Economic
Development Summit held in March 2010. The Equal Voice Economic Development
Task Force was launched during the summit and will be working to advocate for equity
in the creation and distribution of jobs related to the ARRA. Join us by contacting
