Who We Are
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting grassroots leadership and promoting civic participation to reduce poverty and
improve the quality of life in local underrepresented communities.

Our History
Started as a project of Marin Community Foundation (MCF), GLN emerged as an organization in 1995 due to the vision of community
activists, organizers and service providers who recognized the need for an organization aimed at empowering the voiceless in local
communities. In 1998 GLN gained 501(c)(3) status and since has emerged as the only Marin-based organization whose primary
purpose is to facilitate the development of grassroots leadership within underserved communities. GLN's targeted areas of work are
Marin City, San Rafael's Canal Area, West Marin, and parts of Novato. These are primarily neighborhoods of color with growing
immigrant populations.
Members receive support and leadership training as they build their organizing and advocacy capacities. GLN is committed to
facilitating cross-cultural communication and cooperation by providing tri-lingual translation for all of its events and services.
Recognizing the universal need for equitable access to resources, GLN has succeeded in building a culturally diverse network that is
working to empower communities that are too often overlooked.
